about
"Baobab", symbol of Madagaskar, the main theme of the movie. "Baobab"
Ida Pfeiffer, born 1797 in Vienna, died there as well in 1858, considered as the first female
globetrotter at all. Her third and last World Travel in 1856/57 took her exactly on that island,
Madagaskar.
She get involved clueless into a unsuccessful coup against the incredibly cruel ruling Ranavalona I.
Under unspeakable toils she and some fellows are able to evade a threatened sentence of death
by a 53 days ongoing escape through the tropical rainforest of Madagaskar.
Weakened from a malaria disease she caught fifteen years earlier during her first World Travel
in addition the yellow fever afflicted her on the run.
Ida with her companions, finally reached Mauritius, but never recovered from the
strains. Finally she died soon after she returned to Vienna.
( I can imagine Kristin Scott Thomas as the leading actress of 60 years old Ida.
A graceful lady, tough and charming, playing her own theme on the piano during the welcome banquetwhen she was asked by Ranavalona I. to play anything )
